■ Last of its kind

Despite the conditions being there, this is the only fungi with an actual fruit body we've found so far.

There used to be dozens of patches at every local park, even my own yard would have the occasional mushroom spawn during winter. This is partially happening because in an honest effort to "save the planet" the population is encouraged to keep all green public spaces free of what is essentially the only source of compost for these isolated and neglected islands of grass in a sea of asphalt. Coupled with the lack of water and extreme, almost year long heat, the soil has degraded past the point the underground mycelium networks could survive. Shame.
